Tyyne found that her name was difficult for the
British people to pronounce properly, so she decided to use the name TIINA ,
while she was living and working in London.
During her stay in London, she met a young very
proper English bloke named Barry Booth. After dating for a year, she fell in
love with him and they became engaged to be married. The engagement was short
lived however; she noticed a change come over him after they became engaged that
gave her doubts about entering into a long term relationship like marriage.
After six months, she realized that he was not the man she thought he was.
Soon after she broke her engagement with Barry, she
decided to return to Finland. She had been away for two years. Needless to
say, Tiina’s family, especially her mother, was very happy to have her return
home. Spring 1953 Tyyne applied for a position in the advertising
department of Finland’s largest newspaper, the "Helsingin Sanomat." The main
office was located in downtown Helsinki, and she enjoyed her new job and made
many friends there.

The old Kasslin family home in Malmi, Finland, on the
eastern outskirts of Helsinki, where Tyyne was born, September 5,1931. This
photo was taken July 21, 2003, while I was visiting Finland.
The area is now a City Park, and I was sad to learn
that the city has now torn the old Kasslin home down. I’m fortunate to have had
the opportunity to visit Tyyne’s birth place, as well as photograph it. Photo
taken July 21, 2003.
A view from the front steps of the old Kasslin family
home, where Tyyne and her family gathered countless times. From left to right,
Veikko (our gracious host on that visit), Tyyne’s 2nd eldest brother,
Daughter–in–law (at that time) Claudia; and my eldest son, Onnie, named after
his Finnish uncle Onni.
It was an overwhelming
experience, being here on the front steps of Tyyne’s birth place, the same places where she had sat and
played countless times in her life.
